Noida International Airport Positioning the Airport as a Cargo Gateway for North India
Noida International Airport is a Greenfield airport project that is expected to commence operations by early 2026. At saturation, the airport is expected to cater to more than 70 million passengers per annum and 2 million tonnes of cargo.
Avinia was brought on board for the Master Plan after Phase 1 construction had already commenced. The challenge was to craft a long-term vision and development plan for the 86-acre Multi-Modal Cargo Hub (MMCH), while ensuring that ongoing investments were preserved and future work minimized any risk of becoming redundant.
“Avinia helped us in developing the masterplan for our upcoming Multi-Modal Cargo Hub at Noida International Airport. It was a great working with Avinia as their professional team provided solutions for every challenging scenario that was thrown over the course of finalizing the master plan.”
Imran Ahmed, Associate Vice-President Business Growth & Development, Air India SATs Airport Services Private Limited (AISATs)
Designing for cargo efficiency and flexibility
“For this engagement, we put on our strategic hat and ideated about the potential to drive synergies between the cargo terminal and the cargo village development while ensuring that each product was right-sized for demand and flexible to adapt”- Debayan Sen, Project Director, Avinia
The Avinia team produced a comprehensive study aimed at positioning the MMCH to be the cargo gateway to North India, with facilities of the future that are safe and secure, green, automated, connected and smart. The Master Plan met the following objectives:
- Vision Mapping: Aligned with the vision and guidelines of the sponsor or concessionaire and airport operator for the MMCH zone
- Land Use Optimisation: clustering synergistic functions and providing well-sized airside and landside zones for cargo staging, maneuvering, and truck docking.
- Future Proofing: Reserving strategic land for phased expansion, ensuring the cargo facility stays competitive and adaptable as volumes grow and industry needs evolve
- Airfield Efficiency: Airside connectivity and alignment with freighter stand requirements by phase
- Modular and Flexible Design: Use of large-span steel frame systems enabling modular, flexible development and phased expansion
- Innovation: New products such as the BUP and transshipment
- Phase-wise Development: Development in sizable, market-driven phases to minimize operational disruption and maintain efficiency in a live airport environment
By aligning with the airport’s overall vision, the MMCH Master Plan ensures seamless integration of cargo operations, optimizing airside and landside connectivity, and providing state-of-the-art infrastructure for cargo handling and logistics.
Delivering Value Beyond Design
What differentiated value did we bring to the table?
In a complex environment with ongoing construction, we delivered out-of-the-box thinking and bespoke solutions. Our greatest contribution was in providing strategic clarity early on, helping avoid potential pitfalls. This positioned Noida International Airport to embark on its journey toward becoming North India’s premier cargo gateway.
